چکیده

Most models of ambiguity aversion satisfy Anscombe-Aumann’s Monotonicity axiom. This paper proposes a test of Monotonicity, the Allais Horse Race. It is an adaptation of the Allais paradox to a setting with both subjective and objective uncertainty. Viewed as a thought experiment, the Allais Horse Race allows for introspective assessment of Monotonicity. Implementing it as an incentivized experiment, we find that the modal choice of subjects violates Monotonicity in a specific, intuitive way. Overall, we find that models of ambiguity aversion that satisfy Monotonicity cannot describe the behavior of about half of all subjects.

In today's investment world there is emphasis on the role of accounting information. Behavioral factors always play an important role in financial markets. All investors are not rational and their demand for riskiness of assets is influenced by their beliefs and feelings. Choice under Uncertainty; ‘Allais Paradox’ and its Paradoxical Implication

Human attitude towards risk is mixed. However, looking at the persuasive argument of diminishing marginal utility of wealth, academia has adopted risk aversion as the norm. Inculcating risk aversion, expected utility hypothesis (EUH) is used to rank risky options. ‘Allais paradox’ contradicted EUH but promoted the conviction of risk aversion intuitively on the basis of certainty effect. Most of...

Frequency of Limb Injuries Between Thoroughbred and Arabian Horses

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between race horse breed and the frequency of limb injuries through the time of training and racing. The study population consisted of 4042 Thoroughbred and 2553 Arabian horses raced at Warsaw race Track, from 2000 to 2008. Among these horses, 94 Thoroughbreds and 32 Arabians had different limb injuries. Based on the achieved results, it is possi...

Measurable Ambiguity†

We introduce and analyze expected uncertain utility theory (EUU). A prior and an interval utility characterize an EUU decision maker. The decision maker uses her subjective prior to transform each uncertain prospect f into an interval-valued prospect f which assigns an interval [x, y] of prizes to each state. The decision maker ranks prospects according to their expected interval utilities E(u(...

A Simplied Axiomatic Approach to Ambiguity Aversion

This paper takes the Anscombe-Aumann framework with horse and roulette lotteries, and applies the Savage axioms to the horse lotteries and the von Neumann-Morgenstern independence axiom to the roulette lotteries. The resulting representation of preferences yields a subjective probability measure over states and two utility functions, one governing risk attitudes and one governing ambiguity atti...
